It occurs when the force exerted by blood against the walls of blood vessels is constantly high. In medical school, we learn the “normality” of such a phenomenon with age. However, the figures for hypertension have accelerated particularly over the past 50 years.
Stress hormones like cortisol can cause blood vessels to constrict and increase blood pressure. They will also affect the quality of sleep and lead to more harmful behaviors such as overeating, excessive consumption of certain sugars, alcohol and smoking, which are all risk factors for hypertension.
Regular physical activity helps strengthen the heart and blood vessels, thereby improving their functioning and reducing blood pressure if done intelligently.
Inflammation, especially chronic inflammation, produces substances throughout the body that can damage blood vessel walls, leading to increased blood pressure. By adopting a diet adapted to humans, rich in nutrients, and anti-inflammatory foods, a clearly measurable improvement will occur.
